Remember a few years ago when that plane landed in the Hudson River and the pilot, Captain Sully, maneuvered to save every single person on board?
Imagine for a moment that you’re him. Decades of being trained to listen to air traffic control’s commands NO MATTER WHAT. Shortly after take off a flock of birds hits your engine and your plane is going down.
You frantically look around for a safe place to land. There are no airports close enough. You can’t land in Central Park without killing people. The only option is to land in the Hudson River, a very difficult move. A plane of 155 people’s lives are in your hands.
Air traffic control is screaming in your ear to do one thing, but you know from your view and your years of experience, that’s not the right way to go. You manage to stay calm, adrenaline rushing through your veins, while you silently work with your co-pilot to land the plane, in defiance of air traffic control and all generally accepted “common sense”.
Every person on board survives.
Do you understand the level of CAPACITY it takes to be able to do that? To have the lives of 155 people in your hands, air traffic control screaming in your ear to execute a certain set of maneuvers, and DEFYING those orders, risking the end of your career because you know in your gut that’s not the right move?
That’s capacity.
Now you might not be a plane pilot. But do you have the capacity to KNOW what your next move is and how to navigate any challenge with confidence, grace and ease like Captain Sully did?
My guess is: you’re not sure and if that’s the case, you’re not alone.
If you feel the chasm between who you want to become and who you are now, I invite you to join me for a no-cost, guided journaling experience called, It’s Not Your Strategy, It’s Your Capacity on November 17th & 18th. The Experience is 45-minutes of paradigm-shifting content designed to introduce you to Capacity Work™ and begin expanding your capacity so you can actually hold, handle and receive your next level.
