From the blog…

phew.

Maybe it’s Venus retrograde. Maybe it’s the moon in Gemini. Maybe it’s month three in self isolation. But this weekend I went on a wild ride with my emotions and I found some surprising desires within that I had not been fully conscious of.  Or rather, the desires were always there, but I wasn’t allowing them into my consciousness because my “old, small self” had secretly pulled the wool over my eyes and told me they were “pipe dreams”. I had no idea that my ego had done this subconsciously. It’s amazing how tricky our egos can be and come...

the tyranny of “perfect”

I recently wrote this line in an email to one of my mentors “Being blind to my sh&t is just about the most terrifying thing I can think of. NO THANK YOU.” After I wrote this, it got me thinking about blindspots, and how terrifying it can feel to also FACE them. After speaking with so many people over the years, I’ve seen people turn DOWN doing Capacity Work, specifically because they’re afraid they’re going to see their blindspots. What if they finally have to face their marriage is no longer working? (or is working)What if seeing their blindspots means...

Playing possum

Ever heard of the phrase “playing possum”? It comes from the Virginia Opossum, who “plays dead” every time a potential predator is near. It looks like the picture above (that possum is fully alive). A few years ago I was talking to a client on the phone about her self-sabotaging patterns that came up every time she started to get some serious momentum in her business. “Lisa, it’s like every time I start to get momentum, I can feel this part of me that gets really whiny. Then I start to feel physically tired and overwhelmed, like I just can’t handle...

Tinder drama

There’s this funny thing that happens on dating apps… I always notice that the people who put “no drama” or a “drama-free” person in their profiles are the people who are the BIGGEST drama queens/kings. Ever notice that? When I was in my twenties, I used to do the same thing. I’d talk up a storm about how I didn’t understand why drama was so attracted to me, I just wanted to be at peace! But as I went on my personal development journey, I realized I was the one who caused 95% of my own drama. Either through my...

small fires

A friend on a hike with me observing a fiery sunset. Ever seen one of Queen Elizabeth’s “addressing the nation” speeches? She doesn’t usually give them (the last one she did was during World War II). But she did give one when the pandemic broke out, which was a really big deal. And watching it was watching a master in action. I was reading an analysis of her speech later, written by a leadership expert and he said exactly what I was feeling. Great leaders know how to give you the truth and not sugarcoat it, so you’re aware of...

Pregnant or not

a picture of a client on a private retreat with me in Santa Barbara. I walked into his office sure I was going to end up paralyzed or worse, dead. My first time visiting a chiropractor and all the doctors in my family who didn’t “believe” in chiropractic were texting me horror stories of adjustments gone wrong. But I had this soul-hunch I needed to be there. I had tinnitus, an incessant ringing in my ear that was so madness-inducing I cried every day, and terrible migraines with neck pain for months. Yet, rather than invest the time and money...

They don’t mean you well

You might have seen a few days ago that I was featured in Forbes this week. I was interviewed on the Four Reasons You’re Afraid To Be The Face Of Your Brand and shared my top four tips on how to get over that fear and own your visibility. This was a happy accomplishment for me. I’ve been dreaming of being in Forbes for a few years. And y’all know how important Capacity Work™ is, so I wanted even more people to be exposed to and helped by it.  Especially now, when so many NEED more capacity to navigate this...

Disappointment carousel

Ever had this experience? You create a new program, a new product, or a new service, you open it up to the world and one of two things happens: Hardly anyone buys itOr lots of people buy it, but every other time you offer it less and less people buy it. In the first example, your soul is sometimes so crushed, you feel like never offering anything again, so you might throw that thing in the trash and never look back. In the second example, over time, you get bored with it as less and less people sign up, move...

How dare she

Gina hired me because she had a terrible fear of raising her prices. This fear was SO paralyzing, she’d been charging the same prices for five years. Every time she tried to say the higher price to a potential client on the phone, her throat would close and she’d literally choke on the words. So she’d quote the old price and be stuck working with someone for way too little money.  As we dove deep into her money and visibility capacities, we discovered her biggest fear.  She was part of a tight-knit community. Often, the moms in her town would...

Total spiral

Oh yeah, by the time she got on the phone with me she was spiraling. My client, let’s call her Betty, in the course of one week, had: one person try to stop payments for her coaching programanother client had managed to start a “mini-mutiny” in her group coaching program and turned two other clients against her.another client try to postpone her sessions indefinitely because of her stresshad to cancel a ton of live events she made 50% of her income from. To say she was going through a stressful time would be #accurateAF. On top of all that happening...
