psycho nanny

I watched an absolutely terrible thriller on Netflix a few weeks ago. The kind so bad you can’t pull your eyes away from it. It’s about a famous author starting work on her third book who hires a nanny to help with the kids. At first, the nanny seems heaven-sent, really great at her job...  But soon after, the sweet nanny turns into psycho-nanny. She drugs Patrice and gaslights her. The author starts to think she’s going crazy, then her best friend is murdered by the psycho nanny... I don’t need to tell you more. It’s the typical “employee-gone-wrong” thriller. ...

chumbawamba

Almost a decade ago, I met “Hannah.” Our businesses were at about the same amount of revenue, and we connected over this. She was in the middle of creating a new product and I had a feeling it was going to be a huge hit. And ohhhh boy was I right. When Hannah opened the doors to her new product, she was SLAMMED. She went from having 500 people on a webinar to over 3,000 people. None of her software systems could handle it. One of the webinars where she sold this product crashed because of how many people were...

fluffy dog fight

There’s a corner in my office I love. It gets beautiful light in the morning and I even bought a beautiful chair so I can sit there and look out into my back garden while I drink my tea. There’s just one “problem”… Every time I go to sit on it, this ^^ is what I see. My inclination is to laugh and let her stay there while I find another place to sit. But I also know that boundaries are very important for pups, as much as they are for humans. If I don’t set the boundary with her,...

doom spiraling

Several years ago, I noticed my brain doing this really weird thing in the middle of the night. It happened so often, I gave it a nickname: “doom spiraling.” Here’s how it usually went: I’d wake up between the hours of 2 - 4 am and have a feeling of dread in my body. My brain would then start imagining the worst scenarios about everything in my life: my business sustaining a massive tech failure that would render years of work lost forever, my sister’s kids getting hurt accidentally, something terrible happening to me or someone I loved.  On and...

clean before cleaning?

Growing up in Panamá, both my parents worked, so they required some help in the housekeeping department while juggling careers, three children and a country under the constant turmoil of a dictatorship. While we all pitched in to keep the surface level of the house clean, once a week a housekeeping crew did a deeper clean. Deep clean days were my least favorite. My mother woke us up extra early to frantically clean before the housekeeper arrived. “Whyyyy do we have to do this? Isn’t it going to get cleaned anyway?” we’d whine.  When I look back on it now,...

I built it, now I hate it

You know what really gets me riled up? Hearing this: “So-and-so expert told me I should pick this as my focus, because it’s a topic that’s a known “money-maker.” Whenever I hear this, there’s someone on the other end of the line seeking my help. And it’s usually one of two scenarios: 1) They’ve dedicated months or years of their life, blood, sweat, tears and lots of money building a business or project based off what some “expert” told them to do. It did do well, but now they’re burned out, hate it, want to get rid of it or...

viral cat lawyer

I’m sure you’ve become familiar with the “cat lawyer” video that went viral a few weeks ago. I laughed until I cried watching it and sent it to everyone I know. Within a few days it was the dominant post on social media and it even made it to the news! If you somehow haven’t heard of this, the quick summary: a lawyer showed up on Zoom for a serious court proceeding on his assistant’s laptop. However, his assistant’s child had been playing with a cat filter on Zoom previously, so when the lawyer used her Zoom account, he showed...

waiting on the weight

You’d think getting your “first big brand photo shoot” would be an exciting day, but for me, back in 2013 it was NOT. In fact, I felt sick to my stomach the week leading up to it. On the day of the photo shoot, my self-confidence was bottoming out.   At that time ALL I saw put on pedestals around me were super thin, model-like coaches and influencers, with blonde hair. Yet, here I was, size 12, brown hair with distinct Latin-American features.  My photo shoot wasn’t in a trendy Paris cafe, like most “experts” were using as their “look how...

prices don’t exist in her world

A few weeks ago I was laying on my couch feeling like I “finished all of Netflix,” when a new show popped up in my recommendations: Bling Empire. It was billed as the “reality TV version of Crazy Rich Asians.”  Crazy Rich Asians is one of my favorite movies. Not only is it a great film, there are also luxe houses, rare cars worth millions, high-end jewelry (one of my favorite scenes is when Astrid breezes in to a jewelry store all goddess-like and buys 1.2 million dollar antique earrings without blinking an eye) and fabulous designer clothes.  While not...

playing possum

Ever heard of the phrase “playing possum”? It comes from the Virginia Opossum, who “plays dead” every time a potential predator is near.  The version of you that loves to “play possum” exists. I promise. And she’s one of the biggest sabotagers of the success you want to achieve at your next level.  Ever… watched Netflix all day instead of doing what you need to do with the excuse that you’re “tired” and “overwhelmed.”put something off you know deep down is not only good for you, but necessary because “you’re just too overwhelmed right now”? used the excuse that you have...
