From the blog…

we need to have a serious talk

I went to a networking event 6 weeks ago. I put on the bright red lipstick that brings me so much joy, and my favorite black and white striped shirt dress. It’s comfortable while still delighting me with its fashionable cut, so I use this one often for events like this. I also put on my favorite handmade, Italian, yellow high heels that I recently bought in France and I went to the event feeling vibrant, excited and like a perfect expression of me. My light was big and bright that evening. When I walked into the venue I immediately...

put down the mask

A picture of 'carnaval' in my home country of Panama   Today’s post is for those of you who have to be somebody different at work/in your business than you are in your real life, with those who know you best. Whether you have a corporate career or you’ve built a business where you feel you have to be ‘one’ persona, this one’s for you, and I SEE YOU. I was recently talking to a client who maintains a successful corporate career while she builds her consulting practice. When she first hired me, she was getting sick A LOT and...

self-sabotage spiral

A few days ago, I got this message from one of the participants who signed up for the virtual Visibility Capacity Retreat:     I loved this message because it was literally the perfect example of what it looks like when you’ve reached a Visibility Capacity plateau, and I LOVED the level of self-awareness she had to sign up and stop the self-sabotage spiral! VISIBILITY capacity is your ability to let ALL of you be SEEN - professionally and personally.  When this particular capacity is not expanded enough to meet your next level of visibility, what ends up...

I can’t afford it

I got a message in my inbox the other day from someone that said this:     Now, you’ll be surprised to hear me say this...but this is a Visibility Capacity issue. Let me explain because I know you’re thinking this is a Money Capacity issue instead. Yes, it’s that as well. But it’s also visibility. Because our clients/potential clients can sometimes reflect unhealed parts of us. Very often we are a mirror to our potential clients and they are a mirror for us, too.  Whenever I have worked with a person who is hearing, ‘I can’t afford it’...

the curse of “best kept secrets”

Have you ever asked a client for a testimonial, only to be told to ‘keep it anonymous’ or to be turned down altogether?   Or how about that colleague that you see getting tagged by all her clients on LinkedIn, Facebook or Instagram with rave reviews? Even though you do equally good work and your clients rave to you in private, you can’t seem to get people to admit out loud that they worked with you. Or here is my not-so-favorite: getting called the ‘best-kept secret’ or the ‘secret weapon’. Let me tell you, I can sooooo relate.  ...

too big for your britches

My client was on the phone, voice trembling. She had hired me because she had a creative business project that she wanted to launch to her community but had been resisting it for TWO YEARS! “I feel so bored with my business and like I don’t even know who I am or what I stand for anymore. I’m so foggy about it all,” she told me. That ‘foggy feeling’ is a common ‘symptom’ that pops up when your intuition asks you to do something and you keep ignoring it out of fear. Eventually, your system rebels and you either...

just ask

A few weeks ago I was up way past my bedtime laughing my @ss off at my favorite comedian’s Instagram account.  He had just posted a snippet of his latest act and in between wiping tears of laughter off my face, I noticed a comment that stopped me in my tracks. “Hey, Tony! I was at that show last night and wanted to buy a t-shirt but all you had was small and medium, what gives man?” Tony replied, “you should have asked! I had other sizes in the back”. BAM.  I sat there absorbing that for a few...

“too fat” and “too old”

All day Monday, I coached clients. These womxn have varying backgrounds and levels of success from $50k in revenue a year to $1 million. You know what we talked about all day?  FEAR OF BEING SEEN. As imperfect. As vulnerable. Fear that others were going to judge the new thing they are putting out there. That their families were going to judge them. Or their thoughts were “too different and controversial” to post. They’d get angry comments. Or they wouldn’t be ‘approved of’ by colleagues and/or former clients.   In all cases this is how they were unknowingly hiding from...

how to know the difference between real pain and discomfort

Walking Capacity Retreat participants through a discernment exercise. I was at the gym flipping a 135-pound tire across the room back and forth.  My amazing trainer had asked me to do this six times back and forth in under a minute. (!!!) I felt like one of those amazing Amazonian warrior womxn from the WonderWoman movie.  But a little bit of discomfort was starting to creep up on my lower back muscles. “Is it hurting or is it just uncomfortable because you’re challenging the muscles?” He checked in with me to make sure I was staying safe. “Actually, they’re just...

is manifesting total BS?

A few days ago, my colleague Chris Winfield posted “Do you believe in the Law of Attraction?” on his Facebook page. The conversation that ensued in the comments was great and some awesome points made both for and against.   However, I noticed there was a point of view missing from the comments. One that explains why ‘manifesting’ may not be working for you anymore (or never worked). It inspired me to write you today about WHY your “manifesting techniques” may not be working.  Just this morning a womxn I'm currently coaching exclaimed to me that she used to be such...
